Our story
Born in Great Dunmow — and still here
Forbesy Camps started with a simple idea: give Essex kids the kind of holidays they’d talk about all year long.
We launched our first camp in Great Dunmow with a tiny team, a big fox mascot and an even bigger ambition. We wanted to build the camp we’d have wanted for our own children. Somewhere they’d be offline, outdoors and in the thick of it. No watered-down activities, no half-hearted days. Just proper, full-on, memory-making fun from the moment they walk through the gate to the moment they run back out to tell you about it.
Word spread quickly, because when kids come home begging to go back, parents talk. The spirit is exactly the same as day one: a family running a camp the way a family should.

Mum of the camp · Welfare Lead & DSL
Kellie Forbes
Kellie is the mum of the camp. Mum of two, adventure specialist, and the reason every parent breathes out at the gate. She’s our Welfare Lead and Designated Safeguarding Lead, and her job is making sure every child feels safe, seen and free to be themselves. Not pinned down. Just secure enough to go for it.
Head of Camp
Scott Forbes
Scott is the head of camp, and quite possibly the silliest person on site. He’s the one leading the games, doing the voices and losing at dodgeball on purpose. But underneath the silliness he is deadly serious about one thing: safeguarding. The fun only works because the safety is never in question.
Every decision, from the activities we choose to the staff we hire to the fox on the gate, comes back to one question: would we be happy sending our own children here?

Every great adventure needs a guide. Ours is a bright orange, relentlessly cheerful fox called Forbesy.
Forbesy isn’t just a logo. He’s a character the kids actually know. He’s on the t-shirts, on the gate and all over camp, and he’s the reason “the camp with the fox” is the first thing kids tell their friends about.
He stands for everything Forbesy Camps is about: genuinely kind, up for anything, and always ready for the next big adventure. And yes, he does do a very impressive wave.
